We trust our Father to meet our every need in his service. This active, dependent confidence in God is foundational for WEC. We depend on him to work. So when we invite others to join with us in praying, this is the context into which we welcome them.
Sometimes we meet a faith challenge that seems insurmountable: hundreds of workers mobilised, for example, or great numbers of churches planted, or cultures transformed by the gospel. What do we do then?
We can, of course, simply state the Biblical truth, and encourage everyone to take Jesus at his word. 'If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there" and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’
But will this effectively engage people or does it alienate them?
… Does the mountain seem so big that it is difficult to take the first steps of faith? … How can we personally both engage with large faith targets and encourage others?
Are there any practical suggestions that will both stretch our faith and help others join with us, so that we can grow together? I have a few suggestions.
-
First we can share testimonies … WEC has a rich history of amazing answers to prayer, and they continue today!
-
Secondly: we can take small steps … Perhaps it’s difficult to conceive of whole people group or community coming to the Lord, but we can trust for a neighbour, a friend ... We have a vacancies list that holds hundreds of needs but each will be filled when one person will hear the call and respond by faith …
What about finance? We need to see the Lord provide further, considerable sums of money. The figures are so large yet we can all personalise the challenge, seek the Lord for a sum that we can have faith to trust for each month, in line with our measure of faith.
As we do this with focussed, fervent, trusting prayer – a practical exercising of active personal faith — we will see the Lord answer, and as time goes by our faith will grow.
