Q. What is WEC Trek's goal?Our goal is to provide you with an opportunity to learn what is involved in sharing Christ cross-culturally and to discover your personal rôle in fulfilling the Great Commission. Q. What is WEC International?A. Find out on the international WEC website, www.wec-int.org or visit the UK WEC website, www.wec-int.org.uk Q. How long is the application procedure?The typical process takes a minimum of three months. Q. What programmes does WEC Trek offer?Individual Treks offer placements for 1 to 12 months alongside experienced WEC workers. Team Treks are usually two to four weeks. It’s fun to be a part of a group, with an experienced team leader, with the aim of assisting WEC workers in a variety of ministries around the world. Q. What is the best way to contact WEC Trek staff?Contact WEC Trek via this web page and email. We try to respond promptly to email. Q. Do you contact my home church?Yes, we will ask for three addresses of referees, including one from your church leader. We recognise the importance of having your church ‘on board’. If you are going on a team Trek, we only ask for one reference, which will be from your church leader. Q. What are the requirements?All applicants must be at least 18 or older and have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, a servant heart, flexible attitude, and the necessary qualifications for your desired ministry. It is also a requirement to be a resident in the UK. Q. Who normally applies?The Trek programme is open to anyone who is over the age of 18 and medically fit.
Q. What costs are involved?All WEC Trekkers are responsible for their own financial support. Costs vary depending on location and length of stay and include: return ticket to country, insurance, board/lodging and internal travel, essential vaccinations, and orientation and review. Sometimes language learning involves additional costs. It’s encouraging for us to hear stories from those going out how God has helped them gather money together for their placements. Q. Where will I stay during my trip?Living arrangements vary depending on the country. Typical accommodation includes living in the homes of WEC workers and nationals or in guest houses. Q. Will I study the language?This depends very much on where you are going, what you will be doing and if you already speak the language. On placement, where necessary, some time is often spent on language learning, Either in a formal class setting or individually with a language helper. Even taking the time to learn some greetings shows that you are interested in your host country. During orientation we give helpful advice on how to make the most of language learning opportunities.
