Do you have a passion for God and for glorifying him through music, worship and mission?

If so, this might be for you! WEC is looking for gifted musicians with a heart for missions.

Come and explore the music of other peoples, as musical interns, partnering with a qualified and experienced ethnomusicologist and church planter, through WEC's new heart-music ministry called 'Resonance'.

Musical requirements

A love of exploring different types of music is fundamental!

Musical requirements are slightly different depending on the project but a degree in music is preferred.

Those without formal training but good musical literacy and competency and people with technical audio and video skills can also apply.

Five opportunities

We are looking to fill the needs for the first two opportunities before the others.

1) North Asia: Sept-Nov08

You would be part of a team (Sept to November 2008). One or two people are needed. You would assist local believers in recording their songs and helping in a song creation workshop. Then you would stay for 2-3 weeks to help the local believers, especially in simple instrumental skills, probably guitar.

  • 1-5 September: Trek orientation at the WEC headquarters in Gerrards Cross
  • 8-19 September: Music orientation in Leeds
  • 24 September - 30 October: approximate field visit
  • 31 October - 24 November: Debrief and sharing

2) South-East Asia: Sept-Nov08

Two people are needed. The cross-cultural music training in September (Sept 8-19) and the field trip Oct-Nov 2008. The field request is to do a music survey accompanied by a competent interpreter. This will give you lots of cultural exposure and a chance to help the local church.

3) South Asia: Sept-Dec08

One person is needed for any one of several opportunities. The earliest opportunity is to start the programme in September 2008 and visit South Asia from October for 1-3 months. There is great scope to being part of a church planting team, learning language at an excellent school, learning instruments and music and contributing to the work by conducting surveys or recording and collecting songs.

Senegalese drum4) Senegal, West Africa: Summer 09

Under an ethnomusicologist with experience in Senegal, we are building a small musical WEC Trek team to serve in Senegal mid-June 2009 to mid-July 2009. Artists, musicians, worshippers and 'techy' experts will join together to form a SMART team (Senegal Music and Arts Team) to see the Kingdom of God grow among the people groups of Senegal.

The trip will involve travel, learning about culture, music and the arts. Partnering with several local churches and missions, the team will share the good news of Jesus in understandable ways and prepare tools to share God’s work among the nations with others. We are looking for people gifted in some combination of: instrumental skills, singing, worship leading, technology/PA, video, other arts. A strong music theory background not needed, though welcomed! A working knowledge of French is desirable.

5) Middle East (2 weeks to 2 years)

Gifted musical performers are needed to join an experienced performing ministry in The Middle East for 2 weeks to 2 years. More details available on request.

The dates for 4 and 5 above and other opportunities are negotiable, but sometime in 2009-2010. The requests are mainly for song creation workshops. You would help in some music surveying, assisting in the workshops especially.

Costs

Please write in to ask. Expenses vary according to location, since international travel is a major component of the expenses. You will need to be self-funded on this WEC Trek. This could be an opportunity for a wonderful adventure of faith to share with your church's leadership and membership, as well as friends and family.
