20-26 May - God’s word
» 'a lamp for my feet'
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalms 119:105

Jola New Testament
“The Bible Society in the Gambia and WEC International Gambia are delighted to announce the safe arrival of the Jola New Testament into the country.”
This was the announcement in February. It marked the culmination of many years of dedicated work by translators, followed by printing in Korea and shipping to the Gambia.
➜ Give thanks and praise to God for this magnificent achievement.
Inauguration and dedication ceremonies were organised. Representatives of central and local government were invited, as well as church and mission leaders, elders from local communities and the Jola population. The Jolas are now able to read God’s Word in their own language.
➜ Pray for fruit, beyond expectation.
Kazakh Bible
We have mentioned before in WorldwideXtra that towards the end of 2011 the complete Kazakh Bible became available for the first time.
➜ Pray for its distribution, and for God to use it powerfully in the lives of everyone who reads it.
The Ersu of China
The Ersu people have also been mentioned in WorldwideXtra before. There is no known church or Christian among them and no Bible translation exists in the Ersu language. Let’s continue to pray for the Ersu:
➜That the day will come when they too can know God’s word in their own language.
The unfinished task
Around 6,900 languages are spoken in the world; 457 of them have complete Bibles.
Over 300 million people do not have access to the story of the Bible in the language they understand the best, their ’heart’ language. For those of us who have a selection of Bible translations at our fingertips, it can be hard to appreciate what it means to be deprived of God’s Word.
➜ May this stir us to pray.
» Also this week
28 May - 1 June Members of WEC's Resonance team will be leading a World worship week at AllNations college in Hertfordshire. Pray as they prepare.
