Resonance
culturally appropriate worship
Let the music fit the people!
If worship is to be wholehearted, surely the language and music needs to be that of the heart? Music is universal but musical styles and idioms are not; they are wonderfully diverse and culturally shaped.
the Resonance vision:
To help believers from unreached people groups use the music and arts that have the greatest resonance in their own cultural context, to communicate the Gospel, train Christ-followers and worship God deeply from their hearts.

Cross-cultural music training
Resonance cross-cultural musical internships are designed to enable already skilled musicians, researchers and songwriters to begin to learn the music of another people. The Internship includes a field trip (see musical mission trips).
Recorded at a makeshift recording 'studio' in Ziguinchor in Senegal. Lydia, Hanna, Marquis and Jacob on a trip from the USA, led by David Hal, recorded some Bandial, Kaasa & Kwatay worship songs in June 2010 - this one sung by Florence.
The structure of the internship programme is:
- A five-day residential WEC Trek orientation (in a WEC sending base)
- 1-2 weeks cross-cultural music training (place varies)
- Visit to a field overseas or a UK multicultural church placement
- Return and debrief
- Opportunities to share your experiences
Qualifications and costs for this internship vary according to the trips, so please ask:
- Some trips need a recognized level of practical musical skill
- Others require music theory and notation (e.g. Grade 8 or music degree)
- Some involve technical audio and video skills (e.g. recording/editing)
- All internships are self-funded and depend on placement of duration
