Reaching our ethnic minority neighbours

The UK has a large, thriving and growing population of people who have come here from areas of the world where the Gospel is not easily heard.

Among them are two million Muslims, 600,000 Sikhs and 500,000 Hindus. Although they live in the UK, most of them have no real knowledge of Christ nor any contact with the Christian church.

Neighbours Worldwide is an inter-denominational  WEC International ministry reaching out to the unreached minority ethnic groups resident in the UK, through evangelism and church planting.

We believe in the promise of God that people from every nation, tribe and language will be found in His Kingdom, and members of these peoples are found in many of our towns and cities. God has brought them to our doorsteps that we may win them for Christ.

The Neighbours team are committed to reaching them with the gospel of Christ. We are also committed to pray for those who are resistant to the gospel. Prayer releases the power of God, and brings down the barriers that have prevented these people from hearing and accepting the gospel.

Where it all began

The ministry of Neighbours Worldwide began in 1970, when WEC workers from the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East came to the West Midlands to work among people whose languages and culture they already knew. Evangelism and the production and distribution of literature led to many friendships and two Asian churches were formed.

Currently

Neighbours Worldwide is a growing team, currently working in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall. Our vision is to expand the work to London, Leicester and other towns, and are open to developing different kinds of ministry.

We meet every month in a forum for discussion, fellowship, prayer and forward planning. In recent years the ministry has received fresh impetus and new workers.

Ministry in Asian churches, Bible studies, pastoral visiting, children's and youth work.

Evangelism by door to door visitation, literature distribution, street work and developing friendships. The production of literature in various languages, including Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and English. Training new workers, and mobilising local churches to share faith cross-culturally.

Unique ministry to unique individuals

The aim of Neighbours Worldwide is to see Christ known, loved and worshipped among these communities. We stand for the supremacy of the Bible over cultural norms. Generally, we encourage new believers, especially those who are fluent in English to worship in existing churches.

There are times, however, when the conventional British church is not suitable for people from other cultures. For such people, they aim to plant churches where believers can worship God in a setting which is in harmony with their cultural background.
