Joining WEC

selling fruit in Russian market WEC is looking for people who:

  • love the Lord Jesus Christ
  • believe the Bible
  • show maturity of character
  • have a desire to share Jesus with others
  • want to reach unreached peoples
  • be flexible enough to adapt to others
  • trust God in every situation.

Placements in either the UK or abroad are available from 18 months through to long-term.

Application procedure

in a North African street

We expect applicants to have demonstrated a desire to serve God in their local churches. Contact is made with the applicant's home church as soon as formal enquiry is made.

Once it is clear that the church's leadership is sympathetic and supportive, we involve them in the whole selection process.

New workers spend at least two months on a residential orientation programme.

During this period you are responsible to the Candidate Directors, who keep the sending churches informed of progress.

The programme orients you to the WEC ethos and how we operate. It includes time to research your future area of service, confirm your calling and build relationships with WEC members.

It is more spiritual and relational than academic, but it is also an opportunity to learn vital practical lessons from experienced missionaries.

Review

Tibetan mother and child

A comprehensive review is held after two years. If you wish to stay on, one option (with the approval of your leaders) is to stay for a third year and then finish.

If you wish to continue long-term in WEC and have shown yourself able to contribute to the ministry of the field, the review will be a time when any further training needs will be discussed.

Preparatory and on-going training

Bedouin ladyWEC is committed to ensuring that all of our workers are trained adequately for their ministry. This is the reason for the review system after working with WEC for two years.

WEC runs five Missionary Training Centres on three continents. Click on the Training page for more details and links to the websites of each centre.

For those going overseas as professionals, adequate training in their chosen profession is essential. Often upgrading of skills is needed, as many countries require a high level of professional qualification and expertise.
