'For 40 years I have followed this vital ministry, and I know the hand of God is on it.' George Verwer
What do SOON Ministries do?
Every three months, the SOON team edit and print thousands of copies of single-page evangelistic newspapers. The papers or broadsheets have attention-grabbing articles, Bible stories and personal testimonies.
They also edit an online magazine in English – www.soon.org.uk – where viewers can read similar articles and testimonies.
Where do the papers go?
Home groups and individuals send them by post to over 150 countries.
five languages
SOON in easy English – sent to Africa and India and Asia
BADAKE and BOOYATAA in the Pulaar language – sent to West Africa
BIENTOT in French – sent to Western Europe, to West and Central Africa
CEDO in Portuguese – sent to Portugal and to West and Southern Africa
Download a powerpoint about CEDO
UPESI in Swahili – sent to Central and East Africa
All these titles mean 'soon', reminding us of the saying of Jesus 'Yes I am coming soon!' (Revelation 22:20)
What happens to the papers?
Most individuals receiving a paper for the first time, will be given one by a friend, neighbour, teacher or evangelist. All individuals who request these papers receive several copies – one for themselves and the rest to give away to friends or neighbours.
Churches, missions and some individuals order copies in bulk for use in mass evangelism. They distribute them in hospitals, schools and prisons, reaching thousands with the gospel.
How do readers respond?
- They ask for more papers to be sent to them.
- They enrol on evangelistic correspondence courses.
- They ask questions or share their problems by letter or by e-mail.
- They tell how the papers have challenged and helped them.
- They ask for a copy of the New Testament.
- They share their story with other readers of what has happened to them.
- They start Readers' Clubs to share what they have learnt with other readers.
What can I do?
SOON Ministries rely on volunteers to package and put the papers in the mail. Many like to meet in groups to fold papers, label and seal envelopes. They also pay for the postage. 'Every time I take the papers to the postbox, I feel like a missionary.'
Besides becoming a dispatch unit at home or at church, you could become a prayer partner or a volunteer at SOON's headquarters or help with their correspondence or online ministry.
